Jonathan Rowley recently helped out behind the scenes at a\nstar-studded celebrity golf day, hosted by BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker,\nthat raised over \u00a320,000 to build a new Emergency Department at Sheffield\nChildren\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sixth \u2018Walker Cup (not that one)\u2019 was held at the\nstunning Hallamshire Golf Club in Sheffield on September 9th. It was attended\nby numerous celebrities including former footballers Alan Shearer and Jermaine\nJenas, TV presenters Louise Minchin and Gethin Jones as well as The Children\u2019s\nHospital Charity\u2019s patrons Michael Vaughan and Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total, 18 teams took part in the tournament. The RG Group\nteam emerged victorious, made up of Chris Broadhead, Dave Dixon, Dean Anderson\nand Louise Minchin, Dan Walker\u2019s BBC Breakfast co-host, who took home the\ntrophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The overall individual winner was George Woolgar and former\nfootballer Leon Osman won the individual celebrity league. In total, the event\nhas now raised over \u00a3200,000 for Sheffield Children\u2019s Hospital over the past\nfive years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s total will go towards The Children\u2019s Hospital\nCharity\u2019s appeal to build a new Emergency Department. In total, \u00a34.5m needs to\nbe raised for the project, which will expand the clinical space and create\nprivacy, helping children receive the most appropriate care the best possible\nway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department is a designated Major Trauma Centre,\nproviding specialist care to children across the region. Originally designed to\nsee 32,000 patients a year, it now sees up to 60,000 children every 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tonya Kennedy, Philanthropy Manager at The Children\u2019s\nHospital Charity said: \u201cIt was a fantastic day. A huge thank you to Jonathan\nRowley and everyone at the Hallamshire Golf Club who worked behind the scenes\nto make the day so special. Thanks to their help, the generosity of our\nsupporters and of course Dan himself, we raised another amazing amount for\nSheffield Children\u2019s Hospital. It will make a life-changing difference to the\nthousands of young patients who depend on the Emergency Department every week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
