This\nis our last blog post of 2019 and what a year it has been!  We have\ncelebrated our 30th<\/sup> anniversary, launched our new website, supported various charitable\nevents and, of course, continued to provide unbiased, reliable and trusted\npersonal financial and investment advice to all of our clients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking\nfurther afield, we\u2019ve had a prorogued Parliament, the country feels divided,\nthere is slow economic growth and the result of the recent General Election\nmeans that Brexit will happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst\nuncertainty has created anxiety, our advice has remained the same throughout\nthe year \u2013  <\/strong>Brace for Brexit but don\u2019t be\ntempted to make any rash decisions. It\u2019s important to remember that when the\nfinancial landscape changes, to not respond would be a missed opportunity. \nIt is important to maximise your tax free savings, utilise all of your\nallowances and ensure your investments are positioned for 2020 and\nbeyond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\nsuggest taking some time over the festive period to ask yourself the following\nquestions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.Are\nyou maximising your tax free saving allowances<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nyou\u2019ve money to save, but haven\u2019t used up your ISA allowance, make sure you\ntake advantage of this tax-free form of investment.  Equally, ensure\nyou\u2019re making the most of allowances on your pension contributions to cut your\ntax bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.  Are you in control of your\npension arrangements?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether\nyou\u2019re looking to set up a pension, save money on annual management charges or\nto reduce fees on expensive pension plans, review your current pension\narrangements to see if they\u2019re likely to help you achieve your retirement\ngoals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. When was the last time you\nreviewed your investments?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Markets\nhave been volatile over the last 12 months. With fast changing political events\naffecting markets, it\u2018s imperative that your portfolio and pensions are\nstrategically invested to profit from uncertainty and protect yourself from\nmarket shocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Are you prepared for the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safeguard\nagainst unexpected future events spoiling your final wishes by setting up a\ntrust alongside your will.  Trusts come in a variety of forms and can help\nlower potential inheritance tax bills as well as give extra guarantees  that\nloved ones will be looked after. Appoint a lasting power of attorney so loved\nones can act in accordance with your best interests and wishes as they are\nnow.  There are two different lasting powers of attorney to consider \u2013 one\nto look after your health and the other your finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
