Jonathan features in Money Management Magazine

Jonathan Rowley, Director of Hamnett Wealth, features in this month’s edition of Money Management.

Jonathan, who is a Chartered and Solla-accredited Independent Financial Advisor, was asked about the planned review of the Financial Advice market by regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority. He stated that clients and consumers should be aware of the charges they pay for the advice they receive.

At Hamnett Wealth, we believe in a clear transparent charging structure. However, we see many new clients who have visited larger firms unsure of what they are paying for advice and fund management. If you’d like a clearer picture of your financial futre, call us on 0114 235 3500.

The Threat of Financial Fake News

There was a really interesting article in yesterday’s Daily Telegraph on financial fake news and how it threatens our wealth.

Social media channels allow for misleading and wrong information to be posted as ‘comments’ on personal finances. For example, one post on Facebook stated that the Government has been stealing from workplace pensions set up by companies on behalf of their staff. The author also confuses private and the state pension, claiming the latter won’t be paid because the Government is “running out of money”. This post was shared over half a million times.

The spreading of misinformation on pensions and savings risks causing huge damage – people could decide not to save based on fake news that is shared on social media.

Retirement Funding is Workers Greatest Financial Worry

Having adequate funding in retirement is the most common financial worry for UK employees, according to a new survey. In an article published by Pension Age, the report, by Close Brothers, found that 31 per cent of UK workers were concerned that they would not have enough savings for a comfortable retirement.

The worry appeared to increase as people approach retirement, with 45 per cent of those surveyed aged over 55 citing it as a concern. Pension engagement was also revealed to be low, with 35 per cent of workers saying that they never reviewed the amount they were saving into their pension, while 12 per cent of over 55s said that they review it less than once a year.

This worry can be avoided by working with your financial adviser to plan for your future financial situation.   Call us on 0114 235 3500 to take advantage of our bespoke personal financial planning service. We can review all of your existing arrangements to help you take control of your retirement.

Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992 to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. According to the Mental Health Foundation 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.

Millions of us around the UK are experiencing high levels of stress and it is damaging our health. Stress is one of the great public health challenges of our time, but it still isn’t being taken as seriously as physical health concerns. Stress is a significant factor in mental health problems including anxiety and depression. It is also linked to physical health problems like heart disease, problems with our immune system, insomnia and digestive problems. Individually we need to understand what is causing us personal stress and learn what steps we can take to reduce it for ourselves and those around us.

Hamnett Wealth could help you reduce your financial worries by working with you to plan for your future financial situation. We are passionate about making sure your finances are in good shape. We provide a bespoke personal financial planning service. Our extensive portfolio of advice covers areas from pensions to inheritance matters and tax-efficient investments. We are Chartered Independent Financial Advisors (IFA’s) and are not restricted in any way. We are dedicated to building long lasting relationships to help you secure your future.

Westside Article – April 2019

April 6th 2019 sees the start of the new tax year and is an excellent time to spring clean your financial arrangements.  Here’s Hamnett Wealth Management’s suggested to do list:

1. Maximise your tax-free saving allowances

If you’ve money to save, but haven’t used up your ISA allowance, make sure you take advantage of this tax-free form of investment.  Equally, ensure you’re making the most of allowances on your pension contributions to cut your tax bill.

2. Take control of your pension arrangements

Whether you’re looking to set up a pension, save money on annual management charges or to reduce fees on expensive pension plans, review your current pension arrangements to see if they’re likely to help you achieve your retirement goals.

3. Review your investments

Markets have been volatile over the last 12 months. With fast changing political events affecting markets, it‘s imperative that your portfolio and pensions are strategically invested to profit from uncertainty and protect yourself from market shocks.

4. Plan for the future

Safeguard against unexpected future events spoiling your final wishes by setting up a trust alongside your will.  Trusts come in a variety of forms and can help lower potential inheritance tax bills as well as give extra guarantees  that loved ones will be looked after.

Appoint a lasting power of attorney so loved ones can act in accordance with your best interests and wishes as they are now.  There are two different lasting powers of attorney to consider – one to look after your health and the other your finances.

5. Brace for Brexit but…

…don’t be tempted to make any rash decisions. It’s important to remember that when the financial landscape changes, to not respond would be a missed opportunity. We recommend you seek advice from a professional Independent Financial Adviser to review your investments and ensure that your current financial plan is still working for you now and will continue to do so in the future.

Hamnett Wealth Management are Chartered Independent Financial Advisers who offer unbiased, expert financial planning advice and a working towards becoming a dementia friendly business.  Jonathan Rowley, Director and Chartered Financial Planner, is also an associate member of SOLLA. SOLLA helps people and their families in finding trusted accredited financial advisers who understand financial needs in later life.

We offer a free initial face-to-face consultation where we’ll assess your needs and explain how we can help. You’re always welcome to call into our office on Baslow Road, Totley or we can visit you in the comfort of your own home.  Call us now on 0114 235 3500.

Everybody Needs Good Neighbours

This week Jayne, Louise and Phil from the Hamnett Wealth Management team popped next door to support our neighbours, Totley Pharmacy, and meet Sheffield United Manager, Chris Wilder.  Chris was at Totley Pharmacy to open a donation station for their charity partners St Luke’s, which will be located within the pharmacy itself.

Totley Pharmacy opened the donation station to give St Luke’s greater access to the community in Totley and surrounding areas as well as to create extra fundraising opportunities as there is currently no venue in the area where the public can donate items. By dropping off unwanted items of clothing, books, DVDs, CDs, bric-a-brac and household items which will be sent to St Luke’s shops, people can help raise valuable funds
